Frequently asked questions

Here are some answers to typical questions. If you have more, please feel free to contact us.

What is Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International is a training and educational organisation which teaches its members communication, leadership, training and management skills, and in doing so builds their self-confidence. It is the largest and most successful organisation of its type in the world. It is a non-profit organisation run as a network of clubs led by volunteers for volunteers.

When was Toastmasters International established?
Toastmasters International was founded in 1924 and now has around 10,000 clubs in over 70 countries around the world. As a Toastmaster you will be welcome in any of these clubs.

When and where do you meet?
We meet every second week on Tuesdays from 18.00 to approx 19.30.

We have a new location at Wiskadals Företagscenter, Skaraborgsvägen 21 in Borås.

Why do people join
People join in order to:

  • develop their communication skills
  • learn to put their ideas across clearly and with conviction
  • improve their self-confidence before a group of people
  • learn to think quickly and clearly under pressure
  • learn to listen effectively and critically
  • train to become a good leader
  • have fun
As you can see there are many reasons for joining Toastmasters.

What is your reason?

Is Borås Toastmasters Club only for people who speak English?
No. Many people join Toastmasters to improve their English, it is not necessary to be fluent. You can also choose to do your speeches in Swedish.

Is it expensive?
No. In fact in comparison to various courses, seminars, programs, cassette and video kits offered through the media, Toastmasters is the least expensive and in our opinion the most effective way to learn public speaking and to develop self-confidence. Yearly membership 750 Swedish Crowns
That's equivalent to about 60 crowns per month and thereby 30 crowns per meeting!

What do I need to do to join?
Anyone over 18 years of age may join. Visit our club to see whether Toastmasters is of interest to you. If it is we will gladly help you to become a member. Guests can attend free of charge and are always assured of a friendly welcome!
